Elford Village Hall Committee

100 Years
After the first world war life began to change on the return of the surviving soldiers and many of our rural communities saw Village Halls spring up throughout the country.
Elford had relied upon farm buildings and then later the “School Room” to hold events but by the 1920s it was decided to construct a purpose-built Hall.
​A 100 years ago a committee was formed jointly by the Parish Council and PCC to raise money to build the new Hall in the grounds of “The Institute” (now Bagot House) but a falling out between the two parties resulted in the Rector resigning and a new separate committee being formed ....an extract from "The History of Elford Village Hall" by Gregory J Watkins
